Type Foundry TermsBeta

Font licensing used to be simple: one typeface, one price, done. Today foundries charge by company size, pageviews, or app count, add surcharges for logo use, and separate web from desktop. Staying on top of this avoids costly surprises and licensing gaps.

Pricing Model

Price is built at checkout from the context of use — media type, number of users, and client size.

Pricing basis
Licenses are constructed around parameters informed by the context of use: media type (print, web, etc.), number of users, and the size of the client. These are entered at checkout to build an accurate license and fee. Desktop is priced by number of users; web by page views.
Who licenses
When a designer works on a project for a client, the client is the license holder. Designers and freelancers are covered under the client's license and do not need a separate one.
Client
Term
A one-time cost for the right to use the typeface in the situations covered by the contract.

License Types

Desktop and Web are the standard licenses; several uses are handled on request.

Desktop
Priced by the number of users, for creating print and static assets.
Web
Webfonts priced by page views, per website.
Pageviews
On request
ePublishing, brand mark / logotype, merchandising, streaming / TV / cinema, server storage, advertising campaigns, and non-profit use are licensed by contacting Source Type directly.
03

Additional Costs & Special Cases

Logo and brand-mark use, and most non-standard media, require a direct request.

Logo / Brand mark
Brand-mark and logotype licensing is not part of the standard checkout — contact Source Type directly for a quote.
On request
Modification
Modifying the typeface is not permitted; for customisations, Source Type can provide a quote.
Prohibited
Subcontractor
Because the client holds the license, designers working on the client's behalf are covered without a separate license.
04

Discounts & Trials

Free trial fonts, plus a 50% student package for non-commercial work.

Trial fonts
Trial fonts with a limited character set (A–Z, a–z, 0–9) are free to download from each typeface page, for evaluation and student work.
Restricted
Students
A Student License Package gives 50% off, selectable at checkout. For non-commercial work only; commercial projects need a full license held by the client.
